From the vibrantly painted shops along the cobblestone streets to the
colorful Wednesday Tianguis street market, Ajijic will win your heart.
Ajijic has long been known as a village of artists, and has now been
rediscovered internationally.
Ajijic has been named as one of the
best places to live or retire in Mexico (International Living Magazine, AARP),
and recently in The
Advocate
(click to read article). The wonderful weather, the
friendly people, the infrastructure and the price of the homes have made Ajijic
one of the most sought after places to retire in Mexico.
Travelers
to Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara & Mexico City have probably experienced
the Mexican acceptance of the Gay & Lesbian lifestyle. This can also be found in Ajijic on the
sunny shores of Lake Chapala, which is 45 minutes south of Guadalajara and only
25 minutes from the Guadalajara International Airport.
Ajijic may not the place for you
if you're looking for gay or lesbian bars within walking distance and the night
club scene just outside your door, (but that IS available whenever you want it, 45 minutes away,
in gay Guadalajara, with accommodation in most any price range).
However,
if you're looking for a welcoming Gay & Lesbian friendly village in the
heart of Mexico, with an open and accepting community of American & Canadian
ex-pats and local
Mexicans, in an enjoyable, laid-back lifestyle, then Ajijic might be just what you've been looking for.
